The visuals are great. But narrative, control scheme, and level designs are uninspired.
It’s clear that there’s quite a bit of effort was invested in its aesthetics. But modeling the look of a game after the classics comes with a hidden cost: you’d also want it to play like a classic. As a player, you wanted to be enchanted, and delighted by the whimsical narrative. You’d imagine an effortless and precise control. And you’d think each level is carefully laid out with the same love and passion that went into its art directions.
Alas, buying this game feels a bit like an unrequited love. You may enter the relationship with hopes in your heart and butterflies in your stomach, but you inevitably will leave with a sour taste of disappointment.
