The only reason I would give it 2 stars are for the graphics. The controls in the game are so so bad it is pretty much unplayable. It boggles my mind that a company can make such a beautiful game with complete lack of care for how it actually plays.

Even with the new control options this game is hard to enjoy because none of the options actually work that great. Maybe theres some magic programming code that makes other platformers like Random Heroes and League Of Evil seem to almost know where you want to go even on a virtual control pad. This game does NOT know where you want to go. Climbing laddered and chains (pressing straight up) particularly frustrating. The concept and art style of this game is so rad. 5 stars if the controls were equally so.
I would give it four or five stars if controls were better. I like the retro style and premise fine, but the controls make the game frustrating, and I probably wont waste my time until/unless they fix the controls. Less retro controls, more usable!
The game looked very fun and original but once I started to play it went down hill the controls man that just ruined the expire nice I look forward to a full refund
I heard a lot about this game a while back. Also heard about the crappy controls but didnt think it would be this bad. After finally trying it out, i can definitely concur with everyone else. I think part of the problem is the "d-pad" style of control just doesnt work well on a touch screen due to 1: no tactile (common to all mobile games), and 2 : too small for players to accurately control the character without having to look at the virtual d-pad itself - since the d-pad touch area itself is not large enough. I would suggest a revamp of controls by making the d-pad into an analog 360 style instead so players can somewhat get an idea of which direction theyre moving in. Or at least make it an option for it. Other than that, love the graphic pixel artwork. Level design is fair but a bit confusing at times. Gameplay itself is kinda standard but doesnt keep you interested for long....perhaps the horrid controls are ruining the experience too much.
It has the looks of a winner, but unfortunately the confusing level design, poorly executed control, overpowered enemies and bad gameplay mechanics make this game unplayable. I really wanted to love it, but instead this is the first game I ever paid for that I had to delete.
Yup, the controls are as awful as all these reviews state. Stay away.
When is compatible with Moga Ace Power! I like this game but the controllers are shi...
This game gets everything right. There are reviews saying the game is too hard or levels too open or controls are bad. I have to disagree. This game is great. Yeah, its hard but thats a good thing. This is made for those of us who grew up playing Classic Mario games and its right on the money. Its like going back and playing the classic, except the game grew up with me. This is a more adult take on Mario with more expansive levels and tougher enemies. If you dont like that then maybe the game isnt for you. Most negative reviews here have little to do with the game and more to do with game preference (except the controls which were fixed). I think this is a classic.
The visuals and music seem great, obviously some love went into the atmosphere of the game. Unfortunately, the gameplay is where it really suffers. I’ve played other games with virtual d-pads, and I know this game engine is capable of doing it right, but this is hands-down the worst-controlled platformer I’ve ever played on iOS. The level design seemed a bit uninspired as well, but with better controls I might be able to get further to explore those better. I think this game just simple isn’t designed for touch devices. It’s designed for PC/Mac/Console, but was released on the entirely wrong platform.
The visuals are great. But narrative, control scheme, and level designs are uninspired. It’s clear that there’s quite a bit of effort was invested in its aesthetics. But modeling the look of a game after the classics comes with a hidden cost: you’d also want it to play like a classic. As a player, you wanted to be enchanted, and delighted by the whimsical narrative. You’d imagine an effortless and precise control. And you’d think each level is carefully laid out with the same love and passion that went into its art directions. Alas, buying this game feels a bit like an unrequited love. You may enter the relationship with hopes in your heart and butterflies in your stomach, but you inevitably will leave with a sour taste of disappointment.
